OUR NATIVE ANIMALS NEED YOUR HELP
Volunteering for our native wildlife can be very rewarding and interesting. We are looking for volunteers to rescue or transport animals, answer the hotline, care, construct caring facilities, do presentations, sew pouches, help with marketing, grant writing and run workshops. Support and training is provided for all positions.
Note: Helpers would need to become a member of FRW to be covered by our Wildlife Rehabilitation Permit.
Contact FRW on 07 4947 3389, frwsecretary@gmail.com or fill out THE MEMBERSHIP FORM BELOW for more information.
HOTLINE OPERATORS
Our hotline operators take calls from members of the public and organise a rescuer/carer for the animal needing help. The hotline can be transferred to either your home phone or a mobile number. Most days there are only a couple of calls. Even if you are only able to help for half a day the assistance would be greatly appreciated.
RESCUERS
Our rescuers pick up animals and transport them to a carer or vet. The FRW hotline takes calls over a large geographical area and we are always looking for new volunteers in all areas. A rescue may only take half an hour to an hour of your time but a quick response can save the animal's life.
CARERS
Carer members are vital and always needed. All new carers will receive training and support to provide suitable care to various species. Whilst baby animals can be time-consuming, many adults (especially birds), may only take a short amount of time to care for each day. FRW provides training and has equipment available for carers use such as cages. We offer 50% reimbursement on the cost of foods for animals in care (conditions apply) and 100% reimbursement on vet bills (conditions apply).
FUNDRAISING AND MARKETING
We always need a hand with getting the word out there. If you have experience in these fields your skills would be greatly appreciated.
CONSTRUCTION PEOPLE
We would love a hand with construction of aviaries, fencing, maintenance. If you can wield a hammer, we'd love to hear from you!
SPEAKERS FOR SCHOOLS OR EVENTS
We believe it is incredibly important to teach children to respect and care for our wildlife. We run schools programs on behalf of Petpep to educate children about responsible pet ownership and protection of our native animals and birds. If you have presentation skills and enjoy speaking to children and groups, we'd love to speak to you!
ADMIN OR NEWSLETTER WRITING
If you have office skills, or GRANT WRITING SKILLS, or enjoy writing newsletters your skills would be greatly appreciated.
SEWING
Our birds and animals feel most secure in cosy pouches. We always need a hand with making new ones.

Caring for our amazing wildlife wildlife is a challenging and rewarding experience! You decide on the level of activity and style of involvement you are comfortable with. If you have pets and children there are some considerations: Wildlife in care needs to be kept away from people (including unnecessary contact with carers) and pets to minimise stress on the animals. They need to know how to find their own food and they need to instinctively flee from humans and pets to ensure their safety.
